Autonomy

Following on from my previous post, I am going to look at the Types in the Instinctive triad - the Eight, Nine and One - who, while growing up, all seek autonomy. All Three Types in the Instinctive triad try to influence and control their environment without being affected by it which means they all resist reality to some extent.

In all of the triads - Instinctive, Feeling and Thinking - there is a Type that demands what they want, a Type that feels they have to earn what they want, and a Type that withdraws to get what they want.

So, in the Instinctive Triad, we have the Eight who demands autonomy. Eights are assertive and go after what they want with tremendous energy and directness. They tell you what they like, what they want, what they don't like. They want, and take, control and make you pay attention..

The Nine, being a withdrawn Type, withdraws to get autonomy. Nines have a kind of 'inner sanctum' - a peaceful, idealised, comfortable place in their imaginations that they retreat to where they are left alone and can do their own thing.

Ones, being a dutiful Type, feel that they have to earn autonomy. For Ones, this means being good, ethical - morally beyond reproach - which includes controlling 'negative' or 'bad' emotions and impulses which they fear might get the better of them.

So we can see that these three Types have very different approaches. This is reflected in the Types in the other triads in their search for Attention or Security.
